Folks have been moved online so I hve no idea whether this “last 3 days before holiday” week will be busy or not. In years past I’ve had folks under “get done by holidays” deadlines (inwardly or outwardly imposed); I arrived 8:15 but nobody’s here yet 😉 As I pulled through the campus parking lot, […]

Last night I chatted with a friend who’s a graphic designer specializing in educational materials. She loved programming but … math. She had said that when she sees a recipe and it calls for 1/3 or 2/3 … what??? I had been explaining to her the visual I need for my lessons: […]

LOL the two minutes ’til end of work day and I DROVE THE CAR THING so I can’t even think about it well on the way home. Here’s my next magic grant request. Hey. I really should figure it out and at least plop it on a few other blogs. So I’m doing […]

I talked to a fellow who wondered about making online textbooks more accessible to folks with learning disabilities. This inspired me to see what kinds of things were happening and it seems that yes, some etexts are including study aids. I forced myself to stop — no changing majors in the middle of […]

Trying to get slope intercept form of an equation and the student asks me what gives me the mathematical right to move that five x to the other side. So I explained about equality… doin’ the same thing to both sides means they’re still the same… but that is a little extra abstract… so I […]

So, after doing the conceptual framework building of recursions… today we went over the text example that is essentially a template for our lab. (edit in hindsight: this was posted days after I typed it. We had class on Thursday, not Easter Sunday ;)) Had he mentioned this, I would have spent considerably less time […]
