Tryin’ to get to urgent

when I get out on the bike, the 37 different Really Important Things To Get Done slowly bubble to the top.   Doesn’t always follow me inside…

The Two Big Things are the Times Tables Class and the Cool Geogebra Spaced Retrieval Activity.   Another Big THing that is lurking is… doing the Thing Like THe Lumen “Hackathon”  About Geogebra, but … but…

I’m trying to remember How To Design a Program… first part being to state the task.  A quick visit to a random lab assignment from our Java Class gives me an example.

Create a series of questions to quiz a student on their times tables knowledge.

If a student makes a mistake, that student should be provided the answer, but they still have to enter the answer to go to the next question, which will be from the “mastered” group.   That question that they missed will then show up after the next question, and several more times in the course of answering questions.

Of *course* I want activities to build the number  sense (which one of my tweeps describes as having at least one, but hopefully multiple visual models in the mind;  I don’t think it has to be as vividly visual, which could be just wrong and he’s right especially for younger students, or it could be my non-visual wiring…

Next stage:

Create visual progress displays for the activities.   Choose some and let people decide what they like because this is OER 😛   Possibilities:   Number right…   percent right and percent wrong (because hey, I want them to see those numbers and patterns… don’t know how much I wnat to display before overwhelm happens… *definitely* a “most recent 20 questions”  … and also a “mastery” badge for the assorted facts.

But that visual design silliness will come after the fun part of making it work, not that I have preferences or anything…
