Yes, it’s Saturday morning and I”m at the computer between laundry loads, listening to “Splendid Table.”   Fellow is describing how in some cultures and times people learned to cook a thing from a person, orally… in that medieval monastery… to boil an egg “Say four Hail Marys”… (how fast?)
… but then when we’re writing a recipe, somebody who’s never done it before, knows nothing about it or the culture it comes from… is supposed to be able to do it perfectly the first time.   He also described how different cooking spaces meant using different tools… and how the tools conveyed culture… male and female roles and also whether people were sitting, standing, crouching to create and cook.

How is learning and doing math like this?
