This visual thinking thing

I have two images I want to make ASAP — the meta-goal being to learn to make images efficiently.

For “bar model” of percents… for purposes of OER … having puzzle pieces seems to be a way to go. Same with number lines. I started making one big image of a whole and then the different fractions sliced up… (google “fraction number line” — there aren’t any w/ creative commons license yet :)) … and then realized that it would be more useful to people like me to have, okay, a whole version — but also pieces that a person could cut and paste. Let’s see what 33 minutes can get me!

… not *too* far… but I figured out how to do guides by percent 🙂 🙂 and then was pretty efficient at effecting making lines on them. I wish I had included eighths now but … I tend to cram more in… and I shall perhaps put them in dropbox on the morrow with a text file suggesting making version with 1/3 and 1/6 and 1/1… and the halves fourths and eighths. After all, three posters with the same theme might be more effective than one for seeing the connections.

Tomorrow… number line quizzes need to be a priority… and then that second image: the fraction poster showing that 1/4 + 1/4 is 2/4 … and 1/2 + 1/4 is 3/4.

And… I found my flash drive that has icons from 1995 🙂
