So … they’re supposed to find the average of two numbers in ALEKS. Just two 🙂
As in, let’s notice that the answer is right smack in between them.
Oh, and let’s do that division without a calculator, even if it ends up being a decimal.
And because 225/2 really isn’t that intimidating, *they are.*
It’s basically getting lots of practice on easy stuff… and students don’t mind so much practicing stuff they feel confident about.
(now, to get the number sense to estimate ‘half’ … workin’ on that…)
