An industrious student is doin’ his ALEKS work. He clicks on “explain” — and I can see his eyes skip right over every shred of text and grab the “part where the numbers look like the problem you’re doing.”
Hmm. I’m flashing back to CSC 186 which is 2D Animation, wherein I imagined math problems which, themselves, were animated so as to disclose at least glimpses their true meaning.
Now, another option is forcing students to respond to the textplanation before they can so much as *see* the procedural part.
