Almost Midterm…

Yes, some folks are getting on the Withdrawal boat… but if it’s from our newly designed math courses, they get to get right back on the same course at midterm, since they’ve pretty much gone to quarters for the algebra courses.  I almost kinda wish they would do the same for PRe-Algebra, given the chances a few of my guys have;   they’ve “tried hard,” by their definitions… but it’s a “there is no try, there is only do” situation and they still don’t quite believe that if they can’t do, they won’t pass. It would be better to learn that in a quarter than in a semester. And Oh, My… they would be better served by our Transitions class…

I did have a young man who *finished* his ALEKS pie today and called that the sweetest feeling in the world.

It’s rather motivating as far as the apps and courses go and this week and last … I had an hour window at the end of Monday … and with Camtasia on my baby laptop (and I found enough stuff to take off it so it’s no longer in teh ‘red zone’ space wise) I can play with that in the lab.   Afraid it will get their quickly enough if I’m making recordings, but I’ll try to keep ’em on the memory sticks…

… and I did my best re-wind and analyze of that interaction and came up with a theory… but I also re-activated lynda.com because if it takes that much to get the little bit of brain-picking, I need other sources for Java and Eclipse. Big. Fat. Dang.
