It’s a plot…

and here, in the final week of classes, they’re trying to plot graphs on graph paper.   They’ve got the points; they’ve got the paper.   However, figuring out how to assign numbers to the axes is not obvious to them.

These folks can do math problems; they can factor quadratic equations.  They have been plotting points on graphs all year — but they didn’t have to figure out the scales.

There are those who would loudly disdain this as “too basic”  assuming that if folks didn’t learn these concepts by now, it’s “too late.”

I question that assumption.   I don’t think it’s too late, and I *do* think it’s worth doing. Yes, it’s obvious to *me* that these are basic division problems — so it seems we didn’t teach division right. That’s our responsibility.
