That anxiety thing

So… today a student was figuring out a problem that included adding 5/8 to a decimal, so she figured she’d change it to a decimal.

She divided 5 by 8, and asked me if it was right, because it just didn’t look right.

So I told her that it was right, that the 0.625 was smaller than one, and that it was like having 5 dollars and 8 people — we would get change, not a dollar, right? She nodded her understanding and affirmed each step.
Then she proceeded to divided 8 by 5, and ask if maybe that was the right answer.
You see, it seems, if I”m talking to her about her answer, it must be wrong.
This will be a student I do less talking and more drawing with…
